Smokey

We recently took this sweet boy in from one of our shelter partners. Smokey had been in the shelter since August. Unfortunately they never heartworm tested him or put him on preventatives. Between August and March there was serious heartworm migration causing lung inflammation and Smokey began to cough up blood. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Smokey also was mysteriously injured while in the shelter’s care and was now limping and mostly using three legs. It is suspected that a kennel attendant may have caused that injury. Smokey is an incredibly sweet, young, and trusting dog. He needed help. He had already been failed by his original owner and now by a shelter that was supposed to help him and keep him safe. We couldn’t let him go back there after he saw a vet, so Smokey came to us. He is scheduled for his heartworm treatment in May. After he recovers from that he will be scheduled for neutering and FHO surgery to repair his back leg. Smokey is about 2 years old. He loves toys, especially stuffies. He can be a bit of a velcro dog, as he loves people. He likes most other dogs, we are unsure on cats at this time.
